Government Transparency and Accountability

As stated in our aims; one of our major focus is to encourage the UK Government's participation in the UN system, urging that it is transparent and accountable. The UNA annual conference supported a resolution in this respect and include some far-reaching proposals in their policy statement 2001.

Ministry For Peace

The general public, Parliamentarians, peace activists, organisations and journalists are campaigning for an act of parliament for the creation of a Minister for Peace and the creation of a Commission for Peace.

Its objectives include

  • "support all government departments with respect to resolving matters that disturb the presence of peace both in the United Kingdom and in other countries.
  • educate and enable the public to take an active part in the development and implementation of solutions to local, regional, national, and international conflicts.
  • co-operate with the Department for Education and Skills to develop and incorporate peace education into the National Curriculum.
  • research the development of approaches to conflict prevention and resolution both in the United Kingdom and in other countries.
  • provide government with additional expertise in non-violent conflict resolution at appropriate times, including, but not limited to, negotiation of international treaties and agreements.
  • consult with the Prime Minister and Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs in the event of an impending or current military conflict"

Most meetings are held in the Houses of Parliament. You are encouraged to ask your MP to support the bill. The bill, ideas on how you can participate and events in this campaign can be found at www.ministryforpeace.org.uk.

We are all yearning for peace and we can all play our part in what could be an historic moment
