Paul Rogers is Professor of Peace Studies at the University of Bradford. He is a long time peace and disarmament campaigner and has written several books on various angles of peace issues. He launched his latest book Losing Control with a lecture in London, organised by Action for UN Renewal.

Paul Rogers puts forward the widely-held belief that The World Trade Organisation (WTO) rules should changed and linked to development. The UK should link national policies to a programme with an “international agenda’ - facilitating common security. Britain should reject the current most dangerous US thinking regarding National Missile Defence (NMD), which the US thinks will protect it from rogue states. Shedding light on the reasons why NMD is a flawed system, which abandons all of the disarmament treaties laboured over in the last so years the author finishes the book with suggestions for shifting the current paradigm.

Britain should embark on a course of action on global poverty, environment and security which can set the agenda for the rest of the world, If we don’t, we’re not going to get as good an opportunity as this again.
